TENNESSEEon Both Sides of the Civil WarNew! 150 Page Booklet | ||
A study of the Civil War would be incomplete without a close-up view of Tennessee. Battles were fought here on many famous battlefields -- Shiloh, Chattanooga, Missionary Ridge, Fort Donelson, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Chickamauga. Battles were also fought on smaller fronts, as families and communities were divided between those loyal to the Union and those loyal to the South.
The booklet is divided into two sections: Federal Military History and Confederate Military History. Maps of many battles are included, along with histories of various units, some of which include names of officers. Here's a sample from the beginning of the booklet: No fact connected with the late civil war, abounding in striking events and gigantic achievements, is more remarkable than the number of troops furnished by Tennessee to the Federal Army. It is scarcely credible that a State with a voting population of only about 140,000, raising nearly 100,000 troops for the Confererate Army, should also have furnished 30,000 men to fight for the Union...Wouldn't this make a unique gift?
