Early
days in the Atlanta, Georgia, area are recalled through a mixture
of colorful tales and factual data in this spiral-bound booklet reprinted
from two rare books: the Rev. George White's Historical
Collections of Georgia and Georgia,
a Guide to Its Towns and Countryside, a WPA publication. The
booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for
easier reading. A sheet of vinyl protects the three color front cover.
Besides Atlanta, the book includes the
present or past communities of Marietta, Acworth, Powder Springs,
Roswell, Kenesaw Town, Alatoona, Sweet Water Old Town, Buffalo Fish
Town, Decatur and Campbellton.
Excerpts
from White's book covers the development of this area until shortly
before its publication date of 1854. Fulton
County, formed in 1853, was not included. However, we have
included White's observations on Campbell County, which merged
with Fulton in 1932. Excerpts from the WPA book,
give a nostalgic view from a mid 20th Century vantage
point.

Kenesaw Mountain; Denmead's (flour) Mill, Marietta Tannery, Rosewell

1886; When Atlanta became Georgia's Capital; the International Cotton
Exposition of 1881 and the Cotton States and International Exposition
in 1895; Atlanta in World War I; The Central Expressway; Points
of Interest, including Five Points, the Old Lamppost, the Atlanta
Division of the University of Georgia, Henry Grady Monument, the
State Capitol, Oglethorpe University, Atlanta University (started
