Early days in Crawford County, IN, are recalled in this booklet of excerpts from the rare 1889 book: Biographical and Historical Souvenir for the Counties of Clark, Crawford, Harrison, Floyd, Jefferson, Jennings, Scott and Washington. An excerpt from Indiana, a Guide to the Hoosier State, a 1941 product of the WPA, is also included. 

The 52-page spiral bound book is 8 1/2 x 11 1/2" and is printed on 60# paper. A vinyl sheet protects the front cover.

Some of the topics in the history section are: Location on the Ohio River; Numerous caves: Rock House, Indian's, Miller's, Wyandotte, New, and Marengo, discovered in 1883; Agriculture; Settlers and their early sports, entertainments, etc.; Oldest residents -- John Landiss, Nathaniel Straughn, Mrs. Nancy Clark, Robert Sharp, etc.; County clerks; Churches; Early court cases -- the first resulted in a fine of $1.50; the execution of "Ooley" for the murder of "Briley,";  first marriage; Towns -- Leavenworth (county seat, at the time the source book was written), Fredonia, Indian Hollow, Marengo, Milltown, English (present county seat), Eckerty, Grantsburgh, and Alton; and other bits of history and trivia.
