Early days in St. Charles County, MO are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this booklet, comprised of excerpts from the 1885 History of St. Charles, Montgomery and Warren Counties, Missouri and  Missouri, a Guide to the "Show Me" State, produced in 1941 by the WPA Writer's Program.

The 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" spiral-bound booklet is printed on 60# paper, with the front cover protected with a sheet of vinyl.

The Pioneers of the County -- a Narrative by Bernard Guillet, the Chief of the Dakotas; details on Daniel Boone's family and his death and burial; a list of pioneers for each township; and German Immigration;

Experiences of the Early Settlers -- Early homes and homelife;  Agricultural Implements; Mills and Trading Points; Hunting for Wild Animals and Bee Trees; Wolf scalps for taxes; Memorable Characters; and How King Solomon settled a Missouri argument;

Early Records -- The Court of Common Pleas; Organization of the County; uses of the County Courthouse;  

Physical Features and Development of the County -- Geological Formations; Varieties of Trees; Farm Produce and Statistics; Tax Valuation; Population; Principal County Roads and Railroads; and the Varieties of Game and Fish;    

War Record --  Details on Indian outbreaks including the Black Hawk War; the Florida War; the Slicker Troubles; the Mexican War; and the Civil War;  

Political Record -- First Legislators from the county; a Quaint Pro-Slavery Document; a List of Public Officers from about 1818 to 1884;

 Bench and Bar -- Various legal eagles of the county, including Edward Bates, Rufus Easton, Edward Hempstead, Ezra Hunt, William M. Campbell, Christian Kribbin, and John D. Coalter;
