New! 55 Page Illustrated Booklet

Early days in Anson and Union Counties in North Carolina, are recalled in this new 55-page spiral-bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from several vintage books, the oldest dating from 1851. These source materials include John Hill Wheeler's Historical Sketches of North Carolina; North Carolina, A Guide to the Old North State, a product of the WPA; A New Geography of North Carolina and Sketches of Prominent Living North Carolinians by Jerome Dowd (1888). 

The tri-color front cover is printed on 80# card stock and has been protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed single-sided on 60# opaque paper, with the print enlarged to fit the 8.5" x 11" paper and improve readability.

Towns mentioned in the booklet include: Anson -- Wadesboro (the county seat), Ansonville, Burnsville, Lilesville, McFarlan, Morven, Peachland, Polkton, and White Store; Union -- Monroe (the county seat) Marshville, Matthews, Mineral Springs, Waxhaw and Wingate.

Among the many subjects included are: A 1768 petition from the people of Anson to Gov. Tryon addressing the wrongs done them, complete with the names of those who signed it; Thomas Wade, Samuel Spencer and other delegates from Anson to the 1775 Provincial Congress of North Carolina; Members of the General Assembly from Wayne County before 1851; Cotton and other agricultural and industrial interests; the Great Pee Dee Electric Company; Churches and Schools; old Sneedsborough, a ghost town; Dr. Hugh Mammond Bennett, the father of soil conservation; Patrick Boggan, legendary he-man of the Revolution; Ralph Freeman, a slave preacher; L.L.
