New! 53 Page Illustrated Booklet

Early days in Chatham and Lee Counties in central North Carolina, are recalled in this new 53-page spiral-bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from several vintage books, the oldest dating from 1851. These source materials include John Hill Wheeler's Historical Sketches of North Carolina; North Carolina, A Guide to the Old North State, a product of the WPA; A New Geography of North Carolina and Sketches of Prominent Living North Carolinians by Jerome Dowd (1888). 

The tri-color front cover is printed on 80# card stock and has been protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed single-sided on 60# opaque paper, with the print enlarged to fit the 8.5" x 11" paper and improve readability.

Towns mentioned in the booklet include: Chatham -- Pittsboro (the county seat), Siler City, Goldston, Bennett, Gulf, Moncure, Brickhaven, Coalglen, Mt. Vernon Springs, Haywood, Merry Oaks, Bear Creek, Bonlee and Bynum; Lee -- Sanford (the county seat), Jonesboro Heights, Swan Station, Lemon Springs, White Hill, and Colon.

Among the many subjects included are: Names of early delegates to political meetings; How David Fannen, the terror of the county, lost his horse; James Taylor; Charles Manly, governor; Abraham Rencher; Hugh McQueen; physical features, such as "worn-out mountains" and "a vanished sea"; Economic ups and downs; Industry and Agriculture; W.E.
