New York is made up of 62 counties each of which has its own unique story to tell. Henry Howe and John Barber toured the state in 1840 gathering information and sketching delightful images to accompany their tales. They left a wonderful legacy entitled Historical Collections of the State of New York published in 1841.

The New York book was apparently the first to feature the combined talents of historians Barber and Howe. Barber had produced similar works for Connecticut and Massachusets. From the style of Barber's earlier works and Howe's later works it becomes obvious that Barber bequeathed to Howe his special gift of making history entertaining and educational at the same time.

The spiral-bound booklets are printed on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl protects the front cover. Pictured on either side is a scan of the cover of a booklet and an inside page to show what one may expect.
