AUGLAIZE COUNTY, OHIO
BOOKLET / PRINTS
Early
days in Auglaize County and its various communities - Wapakoneta, St. Mary's,
New Bremen and Minster - are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales
and factual data in this NEW 19 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's
Historical Collections of Ohio and other hard-to-find sources.
The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper, with the print
enlarged 10% for easier reading.
IN ADDITION TO THE
BOOKLET the buyer will receive THREE Computer-Enhanced
8 1/2 x 11 Prints (shown below) of engravings from the
original book, suitable for framing. These include a photo by William E.
Potter of Wapakoneta in 1887, an attractive sketch of a buckeye branch and
an interesting drawing of a pioneer passenger train.
Among the many fascinating
topics covered in the booklet are: the discovery of mastodon specimens;
Indian chiefs Blue Jacket and Black Hoof; an Indian football game and other
Indian customs; the Society of Friends; Girty's Town; the old hero Gen.
August Willich; and a discourse (which gets a bit side-tracked) on the name
Wapakoneta.
GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888
county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers
in the county, and maps showing the 88 Ohio counties and 1805 Ohio are also
included, along with excerpts from the WPA's 1940 The Ohio Guide.
