Early days in CARROLL COUNTY, OHIO, and the communities of Carrollton,
Leesburg (now Leesville), Mechanicstown, New Harrisburg and Harlem Springs
are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this
NEW 16 page booklet
reprinted primarily from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical
Collections of Ohio. The spiral-bound booklet is printed single-sided on
60# paper, with the print enlarged for easier reading.

for framing. These include the picture below of Carrollton sketched by Howe
in 1846, the public square in Carrollton, circa 1887, and a delightful drawing
of a pioneer passenger train.
Among the many and diverse topics covered
in the booklet are: the Sandy and Beaver Canal, the founding of Carrollton
by Peter Bohort, other early settlers, Gen. B. F. Potts, later governor of
Montana, William Campbell, who was executed for his part in a daring railroad
raid in Georgia during the Civil War, a family reunion during Morgan's Raid,
Gen. Ephraim Eckley, an incident involving Gen. Harrison, the history of
Leesburg and Mary Kail, poetess.
GENEALOGY BUFFS will find
a list of 1888 county officers and businesses, and extensive information
on the "Fighting" McCook family. A 1933 history of newspapers in the county
and maps showing the 88 Ohio counties and 1805 Ohio are also included.
