Early days in COSHOCTON COUNTY, OH, the communities of Coshocton
and Roscoe, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual
data in this NEW 30 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's
Historical Collections of Ohio and hard-to-find other sources. The spiral-bound
booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier
reading.

Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet

Moravian Missionaries, Indian villages, Bouquet's Expedition against the
Indians in 1764, local ancient burial grounds, Capt. Thomas Hutchins known
as the "Geographer-General", Broadhead's Expedition in 1780 to prevent the
Indians from joining the British, "King Charley" and Mother Renfree.
GENEALOGY BUFFS will find
a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history
of newspapers in the county, a map identifying Ohio's 88 counties and a map
of 1805 Ohio are also included. From a 1941 Ohio history there are brief
articles on the release of white captives, White Woman's Village, White Woman's
Rock, the Johnson Humrickhouse Museum, the Stage Coach Tavern, Amish and
Mennonite communities, and William Green, labor leader. Excerpts from a WPA
project, The Ohio Guide printed in 1940, have also been included.
