This booklet is a newly printed reproduction of a 1894 book entitled "A Brief History of Harrison County, Ohio," written by S.B. McGavran, M.D. This spiral bound book is printed on 60# bond paper with the front cover protected with a vinyl sheet. Since the original book was darkened with age, the reprint is imperfect, but readable.
Subject include: Organization of the county, the first jail, the first courts (including names of first grand jury), earlycourt houses, members of county officals in 1813 and 1894, county judges, state senators and representatives, county officials, county infirmaries (poor houses) and directors; children's home, churches, schools, Franklin College, Scio College, Hopedale Normal College, War of the Rebellion (Civil War) with names of the first company from Harrison County, Banks and Bankers, Roads and Railroads, Newspapers, Harrison County Agricultural Society, Doctors, general description of the county, reminiscences of Morgan's Raid through Moorefield.
There are several pictures and drawings (some better than others): Laying the corner stone for the new courthouse; the new courthouse, the old courthouse, the colleges, the Harrison National Bank in Cadiz, Scio College, Hopedale Normal College, the Farmers and Mechanics National Bank, the children's home and the infirmery.
