Early days in Holmes County, OH, and its various communities,
including Millersburg, Killbuck, Winesburgh, Holmesville, Berlin and Black
Creek, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data
in this NEW 16 Page Booklet of excerpts reproduced directly from the 1892 Centennial
edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio
Guide (a 1940 WPA project) and other hard-to-find sources. The spiral-bound
booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the fine print enlarged for
easier reading.
IN ADDITION TO THE BOOKLET the buyer will
receive THREE Computer-Enhanced 8 1/2 x 11

for framing. These include Millersburg in 1886, shown below, a drawing of

This little booklet is packed with many diverse
topics: Early settlers, including Jonathan Grant and Jonathan Butler; a
devastating fire in Millersburg; Pennsylvania emigration to Ohio with names
of many attending "The Pennsylvania Picnic" in 1880, the nomination of Abraham
Lincoln with the aid of Dr. Robert Enos; the Dunkards; the Holmes County
Rebellion (in opposition to the draft); and Dr. James Irvine, Millersburg's
first mayor.
The Howe history covers the development of this
area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic
glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes,
especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities.

many names of early settlers, as well as a list of 1888 county officers and
businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, a brief
