Early days in Marion County, OH, including the communities
of Marion, Caledonia, LaRue, Prospect, New Bloomington, Waldo, Green Camp
and Three Locusts, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual
data in this NEW 17 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's
Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio Guide (a 1940
WPA Writers Project), and other sources. The spiral bound booklet is printed
single-sided on 60# paper, with the fine print enlarged for easier reading.

They include a sketch of Marion in 1846, a photograph of Marion in 1887
and an attractive drawing of a branch from an Ohio buckeye tree.

the Soldier's Memorial Chapel; the "War Roads" of the War of 1812; Early
Settlers; the Old Style of Doing Business; and an interesting narrative
of a Stage Coach Journey from Sandusky to Columbus by way of Marion in 1834. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888
county officers and businesses.
The Howe history covers the development of this
area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic
glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes,
especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 look at the
history of newspapers in the county, a brief article on Warren G. Harding
from a 1941 history, a 1960 feature article on a ghostly exhibit, a map
showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.
