Early days in Morgan County, OH, including the
communities of McConnelsville, Chesterfield, Deavertown, Stockport and
Eaglesport, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual
data in this NEW 27 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's
Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio Guide (a WPA
Writers project), and other hard-to-find sources. The spiral bound booklet
is printed single-sided on 60# paper, with the fine print enlarged for easier
reading.

They include a sketch of McConnellsville in 1846, a photo of McConnellsville
in 1886, and an 1885 drawing of Eaglesport.

The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890,
while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage
point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate
to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in
the county, brief items from a 1941 Ohio history on Lewis Wetzel, Wetzel
Rock, Dr. H. L. True, the sage of the county, Dr. James Ball Naylor, Howard
Chandler Christy and the Morgan County Courthouse, a map showing the 88 Ohio
counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included in the booklet.
