Early days in Stark
County, OH, including the communities of Canton, Massillon, Alliance, Mount
Union, Minerva, Canal Fulton, Greentown, Louisville, Waynesburg, Wilmot,
Limaville, North Lawrence, Navarre, Beach City, Mapleton, New Berlin, New
Franklin, Osnaburg, Uniontown, Magnolia and Marlboro, are recalled through
a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 33 Page Booklet reprinted
from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections
of Ohio, The Ohio Guide (a WPA Writers Project), and other Hard-to-find
sources. The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided on 60#
paper with the fine print enlarged or easier reading.
IN ADDITION TO THE BOOKLET, the buyer
will receive THREE 8 1/2 x 11 Computer-Enhanced
Prints, suitable for framing, made from engravings in
the original book. They include: the Public Square in Canton in 1846 and
1887, and Prospect Street in Massillon in 1887.

The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890,
while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glympse from a 1940 vantage
point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate
to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 look at the turbulent history of newspapers
in Stark County, brief sketches on Mt. Union College and Jacob Coxey and
his march on Washington, and maps showing the 88 Ohio counties and 1805 Ohio
are also included.
