Although Crockett
County was not formed until many years after Davy Crockett's death
in 1836 at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, both the county and
it's county seat, Alamo, were named in his honor. According to Tennessee,
a Guide to the State, he did live for a brief time in what was
to become Crockett County. The excerpt from Kelsey's book gives
a pre-Disney account of his life.
The final part of
the booklet contains a brief excerpt from Counties of Tennessee
by Austin P. Foster, and a small map of the area.
Wouldn't this
make a unique gift?
