days in Houston County in Middle Tennessee
are recalled in this spiral bound booklet compiled from excerpts
from: History of Tennessee, originally published in 1886
by Goodspeed Publishing Co., and
Counties of Tennessee by Austin P. Foster (1923).
The new 42-page booklet is printed
on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. A vinyl
sheet has been added to protect the front cover.
Among the subjects

minerals, topography, etc.; Early settlers, beginning about 1799
with Henry Edwards; Indian Treaty with dividing line on Tennessee
Ridge; Block-house; Early pioneers -- the Brigham family, Daniel
and Christopher "Uncle Buck" Buchanan and Angus McAuley;
Early mills; Distilleries or "Still-houses"; Iron furnaces
and lime works; Early slave-holders; Statistics; Boundary lines
for Houston County established in 1871 from parts of Stewart, Humphreys
and Dickson Counties; Organizing commission and polling places;
Early officials, judges, attorneys and grand jurymen; Boundary disputes;
Arlington, first county seat, later a suburb of Erin, the present
county seat; Businesses and newspapers, etc; Stewart Station and
Danville; Schools and churches; Early county buildings; Early court
