Early
days in Wilson County in Middle Tennessee
are recalled in this spiral bound booklet compiled from excerpts
from: History of Tennessee, originally published in 1887
by Goodspeed Publishing Co., and
Counties of Tennessee by Austin P. Foster (1923).
The new 80-page booklet is printed
on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. A vinyl
sheet has been added to protect the front cover.
Among the subjects
included are: Location in
the great Silurian basin -- soil, minerals, trees, the Cumberland
River, etc.;Land grants and early settlers (lots of names);Mills
and stills; First store and oldest house; How the county was established
and its boundaries; County buildings; County and court officials;
Court cases -- divorces, public whippings, branding, murder, horse
theft, bigamy, lynching, etc.; State officials from Wilson County;
Lawyers; Revolutionary War veterans; Local militia; War of 1812;
Florida War; Mexican War; Civil War support for the South, with
names of units and some officers; Occupation of Lebanon first by
Federal troups and later by Confederates under Gen. Morgan; Lebanon,
the county seat; Neddie Jacobs; Newspapers, Businesses, doctors,
societies;Other communities -- Statesville, Cainsville, Gladesville,
Mount Juliet, Green Hill, Lagardo, Leeville, Taylorsville, Commerce,

war records, and business activities. In the course of this they
