Early days in James City County, VA -- which today encompasses the communities of -- are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this booklet, comprised of excerpts from three rare vintage books: Historical Collections of Virginia by Henry Howe, Virginia, a Guide to the Old Dominion, a WPA Writer's Program publication, and Virginia, a History of the People by John Esten Cooke. The spiral-bound booklet is printed on 60#  8 1/2 x11" paper. The three-color front cover is protected with a vinyl sheet.

Make your next visit to the Williamsburg-Jamestown area more meaningful with these historical insights from different time periods. The Howe history, printed in 1845, covers the early development of this area, emphasizing the Revolutionary War period, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including  historical notes and a map of Williamsburg with points of interest shown. The Cooke excerpts concern the early days of Jamestown and  details of the lives of Capt. John Smith and Pocahontas. Because the booklet is comprised of excerpts from several sources, there may occasionally be duplication of material.

Illustrations include:  the Ruins at Jamestown, William and Mary College, the Old Magazine, Remains of Lord Dunmore's Palace, the Old Capitol, a composite of seven famous Virginians and views of Capt. Smith and Pocahontas.
